There have been more (external) thefts until May 2014 than there have been in 2013. In 2015 the numbers of fuel theft are still rising explosively. Vehicles, machines and fuel tanks are often the victim of fuel theft, but this form of crime keeps occurring more often in the maritime sector too.
The last few years the market has made attempts and developed products to deal with fuel theft. These efforts have turned out not to be the solution. They often cause more damage, the vehicle is not protected when the ignition is off or the protection is only focused on skimming and siphoning. Introduction Fuel Shield in the Netherlands
Fuel Shield, the newest alarm system in the Netherlands, is designed to prevent two of the fastest increasing crimes: fuel- and catalytic converter theft. Going by the latest market developments, Fuel Shield has been specifically created in collaboration with UK police. Interviews with police and victims have led to the conclusion that current solutions don’t meet the wishes of fuel theft prevention. These arguments became the guideline for Fuel Shield.
Compatible with any vehicle, Fuel Shield will detect any attempts to fuel-, catalytic converter-, DPF- and battery theft. To limit the damage to vehicles, this technology will recognise every form of the previously mentioned thefts. Fuel Shield strives to firstly deter possible thieves by using visible warnings. The fuel tank and the catalytic converter are protected with a special designed sensor, that detects every illegal activity.
Fuel inaccessible for thieves
Fuel Shield does not only focus on skimming and siphoning; the technology makes the entrance to the fuel completely inaccessible. If the fuel cap is opened illegally or if the tank is drilled, the system will activate a direct alarm, through a supplied siren, the existing vehicle security and a text message to three mobile phone numbers.
Active prevention, even when the ignition is off
Vehicles parked besides motorways and on (unguarded) parking lots are often the subject of theft. The moment a vehicle is turned off, it often is not protected against fuel theft anymore. With Fuel Shield the tank and catalytic converter are always protected, even when the ignition is off.
Internal criminality
In the Netherlands we have to deal with internal theft more and more, especially the logistic sector is vulnerable. With the sensor technology every opening of the fuel cap is registered. Also when the system is not armed, every time the fuel cap is opened or replaces a text message (containing time, location, vehicle and alarm code) is sent to the owner. Whenever the tank has been opened while not being at a gas station, the owner can inquire about this with his driver.
Advanced CAT theft sensor
By using special sensor technology, Fuel Shield can guarantee the security and protection of the catalytic converter. The advanced CAT theft sensor detects every attempt of dismantling and sawing movements to the vehicle. Because of this, the sensor guarantees that loading and unloading your vehicle will be without annoying false alarms.
Possibility to expand
There are various possibilities to expand Fuel Shield. For instance, an extra fuel cap can be supplied for a vehicle with a double tank. Besides that, the system can be connected to other security equipment, like a camera overlooking the tank. Fuel Shield’s sensor technology is very versatile, it can also be used on doors, shutters and trailers.
